Inspiration

I was inspired to create LexiLens by the stories of people who struggle with reading due to dyslexia. I wanted to design a tool that makes reading more accessible and enjoyable for everyone. Seeing how small changes can make a big difference motivated us to explore ways to improve readability through fonts, colors, and letter spacing.

What it Does

LexiLens is a Chrome extension that enhances your reading experience by offering dyslexia-friendly fonts, customizable colors, and adjustable letter spacing. It’s designed to help users read more comfortably and effectively, making online content easier to navigate and understand.

How I Built It

Building LexiLens was a journey of creativity and technical challenges. I started with research on dyslexia and accessibility, then developed a user-friendly interface to integrate features like font changes, color adjustments, and letter spacing. I used JavaScript, CSS, and the Chrome Extensions API.

Challenges I Ran Into

One of the biggest challenges I faced was ensuring that the extension's features worked consistently across different websites and platforms. I also had to balance the design of the extension with technical constraints to ensure it was both functional and user-friendly. Debugging and refining these elements took time and patience, but it was worth it to achieve our vision.

Accomplishments That I'm Proud Of

  • This is my first ever functional chrome extension!!
  • I'm also proud of overcoming the technical hurdles and creating a polished final product.
  • I am happy with how LexiLens has come together as a tool that can help people with dyslexia.

What I Learned

Throughout this project, I learned a lot about the needs of people with dyslexia and how design choices can impact accessibility. I gained experience in developing Chrome extensions.

What’s Next for LexiLens

  • expand the range of dyslexia-friendly fonts
  • add more customization options for colors and spacing
  • gather more feedback from users to continue improving the extension.
