Inspiration

Research shows that using games in teaching can help increase student participation, foster social and emotional learning, and motivate students to take risks. Games aren’t substitutes for other forms of learning. Like any educational tool, they need to be well-planned and integrated only when they’re relevant to the learning objectives. Though it’s not the only reason to play games, the fun of gameplay is a critical part of why they are so successful with children, according to educators, who say that games can help disguise the learning of essential but challenging skills that kids might otherwise resist, this serves as learning in disguise. This gamification element is not just limited to school kids, but current trends show that such ways of training and learning have also attracted various companies and corporations in training their employees and workers.

What it does

So our product is a game on an app platform that endeavors to develop skills and learn in a new fun way. This activity can be taken by a vast group of individuals from school-going kids to professional individuals. In today's world, everything has to be evolved to keep pace, and so do education and value-based learning. The aim of our game is simple, it consists of a 3-player team that needs to play together and devise a strategy to win with the given set of operations. Players need to travel through the map by using the arithmetic they have strategically, in order to collect map pieces, bonuses, and other items. Every item they collect comes with a linked question which can vary depending upon who is playing the game. This aims in developing skills like teamwork, reset mindset, collaboration, strategy building etc.

How we built it

We firstly planned on making it a board game with all the pieces and all, because for fun of making it we wanted to build something other than an app or a website. So we built a game, which would serve a purpose other than just entertainment.

Challenges we ran into -

We did not have premium subscription to app uizard and thus we were restricted to use many of the features, and thus we were not able to add a questions page on the game due to limited number of pages. We were completely new to game building and mechanics development, but as we ideated further and further, we took hold of ideas and made something we feel is something new. We had to learn to simulate a board game into a pygame program.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Trying something new other than app or website building, we think this is making something we love to do.

What we learned

figma, pygame, developing game story, mechanics, app uizard etc.

What's next for Liberal - Games

Making more such education value-based games!
