Inspiration
Connecting with college mentors and professional is an important aspect of the transition to college as it allows the students to expand their network, and ultimately prepare them for their respective careers. The traditional way was to meet in-person with mentors from college and in the professional world, but that is now nearly impossible to do given the COVID-19 pandemic. This allowed us to come up with a solution to connect transitioning students to college and professional mentors in addition to providing a place where these students can relax and play games given the mental toll of the pandemic and the lack of interaction the students have with others.
What it does
The LinkCord App, which we call it, built on Flutter, Dart and FireBase as the backend simply is a portal for the transitioning college student to connect with college mentors studying a field of their liking. They will be given the option to connect through Discord (specific server we have) or Linkedin (not implemented). They also have the option of relaxing (white noise) or playing games (not implemented yet).
How we built it
We utilized Flutter and Dart due to its simplicity and the fact that it is a universal language across multiple platforms, in addition to having FireBase as the backend for the web app
Challenges we ran into
The main issues we ran into was direct integration with DiscordAPI since Flutter/Dart is not super friendly with that. In addition, making games and even deploying the Flutter WebApp is something that is very challenging on Flutter/Dart.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Having a framework that we can build upon in the future is something we are very proud of.
What we learned
Project Management, and designing applications starting by looking at ourselves as the "user" rather than designing the app for others (since we would also be users of the app) and then proceeding with our designs
What's next for LinkCord
Virtual Reality Integration for Networking and Relaxation
Built With
- dart
