Inspiration

Many individuals, especially those who are new to financial independence or transitioning from college, often find the world of loans daunting. The criteria banks and financial institutions consider when granting loans remain opaque to many. We saw an opportunity to demystify this process, empowering individuals with the knowledge to make informed decisions about their financial futures.

What it does

LoanWise acts as a bridge between prospective borrowers and the understanding of their loan eligibility. Users provide a set of financial details, which our web app processes, returning not only the likelihood of getting a loan but also insights into how different factors weigh in that decision. This way, users aren't just provided with a decision but an understanding of the 'why' behind that decision.

How we built it

The frontend is a combination of intuitive design and reactive components, achieved using HTML, CSS, and React. For the backend, we adopted the agile FastAPI to create an efficient interface with our AI model. This model has been trained using robust datasets to make predictions about loan qualifications based on a user's financial profile.

Challenges we ran into

Design Philosophy: Crafting a user-centric design was initially challenging. We wanted to ensure that the platform was not only functional but also user-friendly. Our savior was Figma, which allowed us to prototype, iterate, and finalize our vision effectively.

Data Acquisition:

Finding comprehensive, accurate, and unbiased data for training our AI model presented hurdles. We scoured multiple databases, ensuring that the data we used was representative and of high quality.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Beyond the aesthetics of our UI and the accuracy of our predictive model, we're proud of creating a tool that can make a tangible difference in people's lives. The feedback loop our AI provides can educate and guide users towards achieving their financial goals.

What we learned

Beyond the technical aspects of AI, website design, and backend development, we learned the importance of user-centric design and iterative development. Meeting the user's needs and ensuring the tool is accessible and understandable became our core tenets.

What's next for LoanWise

Our vision for LoanWise is expansive:

Credit Score Insights:

We're looking to integrate a module that not only provides users with an estimated credit score but also actionable advice on how to improve it.

Loan Product Recommendations:

Instead of users looking for suitable loans, why not have the most fitting loan products come to them? We aim to partner with banks and financial institutions to provide users with personalized loan suggestions based on their profile.

Educational Content:

We plan to host webinars, write articles, and produce content that educates users about the nuances of loans, interest rates, and financial planning.

Community Building:

A forum or community board where users can share experiences, ask questions, and learn from one another is in our roadmap.

What we learned

We learned a lot about AI and about designing an appealing website with Figma and HTML/CSS.

What's next for LoanWise

We intend to expand LoanWise to offer more services to the user, such as a credit score estimate and the ability to see how to request certain loans.
