Inspiration
Inspired by BeReal and the common phrase said to CS majors "go touch some grass".
What it does
Our app prompts the user randomly every day to take a photo of an natural object (e.g. tree, lake, bird), and the user will gain points based on what they took. We use AI image recognition software to correctly identify what the user took. This is also a fun social media app where users can share what they took photos of and can compete in leaderboards.
How we built it
We used React Native and Expo for frontend and MongoDB, Express.js, Node.js, and Mongoose with Google Cloud Storage for the backend.
Challenges we ran into
Trouble setting up MongoDB and timecrunch with connecting frontend with backend functionality.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Learning completely new frameworks and experimenting with backend development.
What we learned
It's always good to have some prerequisite experience so we can spend more time coding and less time setting up everything.
