Description

Our project is under the Innovation Track (Overlays for: Best 5C, Best Healthcare hack) using Figma and Canva. LOOOP is related to the Code to Connect theme as it overcomes the distance and time difference barriers to foster personal growth and interpersonal relationships, making romantic, platonic, and familiar connections intentional. It is intentionally ethical because it aims to enhance users’ time and mental health by encouraging meaningful interactions instead of endless scrolling or notifications.

6.67M US college students have been in a long distance relationship (LDR). One in five US college students enrolled in an out-of-state college. More than 1.1 million US college students are international. We were motivated by personal stories where digital tools for connection often lack emotional structure or intentionality. While messaging apps and video calls exist, they fail to offer guided ways to nurture a relationship and alleviate fear of missing out, anxiety, and frustration from each other. During college, a transitional stage in life, students yearn for intentional emotional connections in their LDRs to feel seen and supported. With LOOOP, users can stay connected across time and space beyond using basic communications but through structured and interactive ways to check in and express care

A college student can download the app and then link their account with their partner’s. With LOOOP, the user gives and receives support: Each week, the app provides a guided prompt such as “record yourself cooking the other’s favorite food,” “go to you and your loved one’s favorite restaurant,” etc. Completing a mission unlocks content from your partner, which could be a voice memo, a letter, a video, or another personalized surprise. By fostering a streak, this exchange of completing missions and receiving moments keeps communication intentional and balances emotional reliance with personal independence to fuel well-rounded interpersonal growth.
