Inspiration

All big actions start with small beginnings. Everyone contributes to a better world and it all starts with individual commitment and contribution.

What it does

It's a utility lottery system that motivates households to reduce their carbon footprint through reducing hydro and water usage. Eligible households that meet specified requirements will be entered into a draw for prizes. However, a $2 entry fee is mandatory for entry. Terms: italics Green Button Connect - Utility companies with consent can send utility data to third party apps. italics Energy Threshold - Basically comparing your household to other households of similar structure/situation. Lottery Rules (Guaranteed winner per month): Reducing your household's carbon footprint (compared to the previous month) will earn you draws. Get entries depending on which carbon footprint level you fall under. Get 2 extra draws by being the most improved household in your community each month. For each consecutive month below the energy benchmark (average carbon footprint ranking for households like yours), your entries will double.

How I built it

Being my first hackathon, I attempted to use java script to code my own website, however, with time constraints, finished by using Wix and Weebly.

Challenges I ran into

Although the experience was exciting, the difficulty came with understanding a new coding language in a short period of time. However, I was eager to learn the best I can.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Using engineering design rigor to produce an innovative idea that can be motivating in helping to reduce carbon emissions.

What I learned

Coding languages require more than 24 hours to understand and get comfortable with.

What's next for Lottorontility

To become competent in Javascript and HTML and develop an interactive website that works with real-time data sent from the Green Button Program.
