Inspiration
Low Light Lounge is a website game developed with the idea of fun, connection and friendly competition. Inspired by the lively energy of bartending and the joy of mastering new skills, we designed a game that is both engaging and social.
What it does
Low Light Lounge is a fast-paced, 2D timed-based simulation where players take on the role of a bartender. As customers come to the bar, players must quickly and accurately mix and serve drinks according to orders. The goal is to serve as many drinks as possible during each shift. The game features background music and sound effects, enhancing the relaxing atmosphere.
How we built it
Figma was used to design the wireframe and hifi and creating the stile guide, graphics and animations, ensuring a smooth visual flow and an engaging user interface. The interactive gameplay was implemented with HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges we faced was ensuring accurate timing and logic for the preparation of drinks since the game required synchronization of actions to match the customer's orders. Another difficulty we ran into was designing an intuitive user interface in Figma that would clearly represent the large variety of ingredients needed for different cocktails. This was important since we wanted to make sure players could easily keep track of the ingredients needed for the drinks.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of how our team came together to create a fully functional game despite none of us having prior experience in game development. From learning the fundamentals of game design to successfully implementing the gameplay mechanics, we overcame a steep learning curve and were overjoyed to be able to produce a game that is engaging and educational.
What we learned
The development of Low Light Lounge taught us the importance of collaboration and communication, especially when tackling on a project as complex as game development for the first time. We also learned how to smoothly combining creativity with technical skills to build a functional game from scratch. We gained valuable experience in problem-solving, particularly when dealing with timing and logic in JavaScript to ensure smooth gameplay.
What's next for Low Light Lounge
We plan to introduce a conversation roadmap between bartenders and customers since it allows for a more immersive bartending experience and is essential for a bar experience. Additionally, we would like to implement a high score board, enabling the Low Light Lounge community to complete for the top spot and share their achievements. Also, we are interested in allowing for a co-operative gameplay, allowing friends to team up or compete against each other. This adds another layer of interaction and fun to the game.
