What it does

Introducing a new and secure website that helps you control your energy use better—our platform keeps track of your energy consumption and provides ML-based forecasting. LUMINARA enables you to develop eco-friendly habits. The website ensures your privacy with solid security features, giving you peace of mind as you try to live a greener life. Additionally, we provide energy providers access secured through differential privacy to more detailed data on energy consumption in neighborhoods and regions. Our main goal is to assist homeowners in being more efficient with their energy use and, therefore, helping energy providers achieve their goal of reducing energy fluctuations.

How we built it

Our team put a lot of work into building our React Web App. We carefully planned each stage, from the initial idea to completing the final implementation, to ensure the app provides a smooth, efficient, and user-friendly experience.

Challenges we ran into

Scoping the problem: First, we had to understand exactly what problems we wanted to solve. This was tricky because we needed to clearly define what we were dealing with in sustainable energy management. The subject was complicated, so we had to find the right balance between looking at the big picture and being specific. Our team had lots of brainstorming sessions and did thorough research to identify the main issues.
Defining the exact problem we want to tackle: After figuring out the big picture, the next challenge was narrowing down our focus and deciding on the problem we wanted to work on. It was crucial to be very precise to create a solution that would make a real difference. This meant carefully looking at our priorities, considering the most urgent issues, and thinking how much impact our solution could have.

What we learned

During the hackathon, we learned how essential discussions shape our teamwork. Talking about ideas is crucial—it helps us develop new things, clarify our thoughts, and form the foundation for the entire hackathon experience. We got acquainted with the Business model canvas and the Value Proposition canvas. Furthermore, we explored frameworks for vision definition.

What's next for Luminara

The first step would be to contact energy providers and collaborate. They would be able to insert their data and make use of our web application. After that, the user testing can start. Moreover, we want to create a fancy smartphone application and improve our web application.
