Inspiration
We were inspired mostly by party games such as Jackbox Party, Scribbl.io, Gartic Phone, and Kahoot. Along with this, we were also inspired by our love for music writing and composition.
What it does
Our project allows users to work together to write original songs in a party game format.
How we built it
To build this project, we used React and Next.js as frameworks. Along with this, we used Socket.io and Render as a method of creating online, multiplayer functionality. The project was mostly coded in JavaScript, along with CSS and TypeScript.
Challenges we ran into
Learning to host servers and create online multiplayer was our biggest struggle, especially because this was our first time using Socket.io and Render. Another challenge we had was that bugfixing multiplayer features was tedious. This was mostly due to needing multiple users active at once to test.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud that we were able to create working, online multiplayer functionality. We are also proud that we were able to make this a web based application, allowing for more accessibility.
What we learned
In this project, we learned to work with Socket.io and React. We also learned new server and website debugging techniques.
What's next for Lyrical Lords
The first improvement we would make in the future is for the website to run smoother. Along with this, we would love to create different gamemodes for more diversity.
