We were inspired by the product Life Alert and the SOS feature on Apple’s iPhone, as these products and features have the potential to save lives. Although they each have critical flaws, LifeAlert is a paid service that not everyone can afford to have access to, and the SOS feature on iPhones lack autonomy, as it simply makes the call to 911, but if you are in a situation where you are unable to speak to the operator, its rendered practically useless. This is where mAInLine comes in, it is an app that acts as your own personal panic button from your phone. Before being able to use the app, users will input the following personal information: name, date of birth, and home address. Then, users will be prompted to input their medical history, including any heart or lung problems, as well as any major health concerns such as allergies. We will respect user privacy and take the necessary steps to keep their information private. Now users will be able to use our AI emergency assistant whenever needed. With the information given by the user, mAInLine will call 911, and have its AI assistant make the call for the user, informing them of the user’s name, age, current location, detailed notes on how to access the location if given by the user, and important medical information. We built this project through React, TailwindCSS, TypeScript, JavaScript, Node.js, Express, Twilio, Kotlin, and Gemini API. We also tried creating a Gibberlink implementation that is still on the works of early development. The main challenges we ran into were coming up with an idea that we found to be both creative and useful in real-world applications, along with actually implementing the Gemini API to work with other APIs to make the phone calls to the operator. In terms of what’s next for mAInLine, hopefully, it can be developed into a regular phone feature, as it would allow for many more people to get the help they need in those dire situations.
