Inspiration

Brandon instantly liked the idea of incorporating Marvel characters into our idea, and I was interested in the usage of Microsoft's Cognitive API.

What it does

Ever wondered what Marvel Superhero or Villain best resembles you? Well look no further! MarvelU is the latest and greatest application for comic fans and non fans alike as you and your friends have hours of fun taking turns seeing which Marvel character you get.

Just take a picture with your iPhone. Using Microsoft's Cognitive Services, the application determines various features of your face, and generates a data profile of you. Next it utilizes Disney Marvel's API's vast collection of comic characters to determine which one best suits you! Incorporated UI to maintain the retro and cartoon feel of Marvel comics.

How I built it

iOS mobile application built with Objective-C

Challenges I ran into

It was difficult trying to use the Microsoft Cognitive API until I found the iOS SDK for it. We ran into issues filtering Marvel characters by gender, specifically female characters appeared less often and many other characters in the Marvel database were invalid (missing essential pieces of info).

What's next for MarvelU

We can try to more accurately find the facial similarities between the user and Marvel characters. We could also use our app as a starting point for a Tinder-like Marvel user matching app.
