Inspiration
This idea stems from the inaccurate of COVID-19 information and lack of representation in news of anti-asian attacks. The topic of anti-asian racism started out to be not widely covered and people only started talking about it more because of celebrities speaking out or somehow seeing such news through algorithms.
What it does
MaskX is a browser extension. By using sentiment analysis, we will determine how subjective on a scale of 0 to 1 and the polarity on a scale of -1 to 1 for how positive or negative the tweet is. Then, we categorized Tweets as negative, neutral, or positive. Thus, when a user comes across a misinformative, negative tweet, there will be a warning and hide the Tweet. The Tweet will still remain accessible for the public to view.
How we built it
Using Python, we performed exploratory data analysis and ran sentiment analysis on the Twitter data on Google Colab.
What's next for MaskX
MaskX allows you to simply change the search parameters to different hot and trending but sensitive topics, like combating hate speech and detecting potentially harmful comments on Youtube to be held under review. This is a great tool for social media companies as it allows them to filter out big data sets.
