Inspiration
Our team has personal experience working in restaurants and witnessing how much food goes to waste. We decided to do something to fight this problem that hasn't been done yet.
What it does
MealTree connects busy restaurants directly to those who need food the most, including the homeless and those who qualify for government assistance.
How we built it
We came up with a basic format for a business end and user end registration page. Using HTML, CSS, Javascript, and React, we coded a simple landing page for those interested to fill out forms for their personal information and choose options best suited to them.
Challenges we ran into
We had difficulties in terms of coding and specifying how we differed from our competition. In the end, we divided up the work of coding the registration forms and fleshing out our idea and mission.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of coming across an issue that we have personal experience in and deciding to create a solution that would benefit both business and user.
What we learned
We learned how to balance different needs when creating an ambitious product, how to focus on our most important priorities, and how to keep in mind our mission.
What's next for Meal Tree
The next steps for MealTree are to diversify our business model through for profit methods like auctioning off high quality meals.
