Inspiration

One of Jerry's friends relies heavily on medication to survive. So, we asked them for their thoughts on this hackathon, and they noted that prescribing drugs and getting a proper dosage took several days in some cases, as the doctor had to dig through medical and family history files to figure out what drug was best for them based primarily on dietary restrictions. So, we created Medcalc, which may not replace a doctor, but will help doctors find the most effective drug and dosage.

What it does

Medcalc instantly recommends a medicine with the proper dose based on your age, dietary restrictions, and diagnoses.

How we built it

We built Medcalc using Flask, HTML5, CSS3, and Python.

Challenges we ran into

Often, the data we scraped from APIs and Websites didn't work well with us. However, we eventually overcame that issue.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We managed to finish a project that works perfectly within a minimal amount of time, especially being in two very different timezones

What we learned

We learned that there are more factors to prescribing medicine than we usually see, such as price, favorability, and effectiveness. Even the slightest difference in dosage can kill a person, so getting the proper dosage is crucial.

What's next for Medication Recommender

We aren't sure, but it has a place in the healthcare industry, helping doctors prescribe medicine quicker while still being effective.
