Inspiration
Patient safety is paramount in healthcare, and medication errors pose a significant risk. Our inspiration stemmed from the urgent and severe need to mitigate these errors and enhance patient well-being.
What it does
Our mobile app serves as a comprehensive tool for patients to manage their prescription medications effectively. It tracks drug-drug interactions, leveraging both prescription data and user health information. Additionally, it provides users with daily medication reminders and valuable insights into their prescriptions.
How we built it
We utilized React Native for the mobile app development and Python, along with Flask, for backend functionalities. Our app integrates with the Gemini API for synthesizing factual medical data stored in SQLite database. We made use of Intel Developer Cloud and Jupyter Notebook to initiate the fine-tuning and Retrieval Augmented Generation processes on our model.
Challenges we ran into
Throughout the development process, we encountered several challenges. Connectivity issues with Intel's Jupyter Notebook and installation difficulties on cloud instances were notable hurdles. Acquiring medical data posed another challenge due to its proprietary nature. Additionally, fine-tuning the Gemini API to meet our requirements presented its own set of obstacles.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to have addressed the use case effectively, delivering an MVP that provides tangible value to users. Our app represents a significant step towards a comprehensive solution that could seamlessly integrate with Electronic Health Records. Moreover, we've laid a solid foundation for potential integration with healthcare providers, paving the way for broader adoption.
What's next for MedSafe.ai
Moving forward, we aim to continue refining and expanding the capabilities of MedSafe.ai. Our roadmap includes further integration with Electronic Health Records, enhancing user experience through wearable device integration, and exploring opportunities for collaboration with healthcare providers to promote patient safety and well-being.
