Inspiration

The decline in close friendships and increasing social isolation, exacerbated by the global pandemic, inspired us to create Meetix. With 44.8% of Americans struggling to meet new people, we saw a need for a platform that makes it easier to connect with others who share similar interests. Meetix was born from the idea that shared experiences at events could be a powerful catalyst for building meaningful relationships.

What It Does

Meetix combines event ticketing with a dating profile feature, offering a unique and convenient way for people to make connections. Users can:

Buy Tickets: Browse and purchase tickets for various events.
Set Up Profiles: Create dating profiles to connect with other attendees.
Match and Chat: Browse, match, and chat with fellow event-goers.
Meet Up: Arrange to meet at the event, making it easier and more natural to connect in person.

How We Built It

Frontend: We used Next.js for building a fast, responsive, and SEO-friendly frontend. Dynamic imports and custom hooks like useAuth were integrated to optimize performance and manage user authentication seamlessly.
Backend: Firebase powers our backend, providing real-time database capabilities and robust user authentication. This ensures scalability, security, and real-time updates.

Challenges We Ran Into

User Authentication: Integrating secure and seamless authentication was a challenge, but Firebase's robust solutions helped us overcome it.
Real-Time Updates: Ensuring real-time updates without compromising performance required careful optimization of our database interactions.
User Engagement: Encouraging users to set up profiles and engage with others initially required iterative improvements in UI/UX design.
