What it does:

  • This app serves as a mental health diary app tracker where users can share their thoughts and how they felt at any given day. Their responses would be shown on a calendar to visually indicate they have made an input (whether that be a diary entry, and/or an emotive response). Users would be able to go back and look at previous entries by clicking on a date on the calendar. There is a feature in which the app would provide a weekly summary of how the user has felt, and if that drops below a certain threshold, would offer suggestions or resources to how to get the user back on their feet.

How we built it: Designer: The designs were initially based off of a teammate's sketches. Further details were gathered and iterated on based off of other apps found on Google, as well as personal assumptions.

Challenges we ran into Designer: As this is my very first hackathon, I had very little idea of what to expect. I've never worked alongside developers before, so I wasn't quite sure what needed to be done. This is the first time that I have created something entirely from scratch (brand and everything). Usually, I would have some sort of guidelines or design systems to work alongside to make the designs fit more thematically, but here I had with little to work from outside of my own creativity (which is something I am not particularly strong at at this point in time). As a result, there are a lot of clear inconsistencies with the design with features not fitting together well.

Accomplishments that we're proud of Designer: Having decided to attend this hackathon as a non-CS student with no professional education in tech whatsoever, I'm proud that I decided to come out to experience this hackathon in person. It was definitely outside of my comfort zone, but I learned so much, and it was a pleasure to work alongside so many hardworking likeminded individuals.

What we learned Designer: Given the 24 hour limit we had, I found that this project was quite optimistic, especially as a first-timer. Designing something with no prior research is difficult, because a lot of it is based off on assumptions of what you think the users would want which I'm not quite familiar with.

What's next for Test project Designer: Moving forward, there is a lot of things that I would need to work on. Visually, there are many components that would need improvements to create a more coherent brand. With Figma, I would like to learn more about creating my own components (eg. interactable calendars, weekly summary, diary input, etc).
