My Story Behind Mental Tea Inspiration:

The inspiration for creating Mental Tea came from my own personal journey with mental health, as well as witnessing friends and family struggle in silence. The stigma around mental health issues often prevents people from seeking help or even talking about their challenges. I wanted to create a space where people could freely explore their emotions, get reliable information, and feel supported without fear of judgment. As the world becomes more connected, I believed there was a need for a resource that blends education, self-reflection, and real-time support, which could make a real difference in people's lives.

What I Learned:

Throughout the development of this project, I learned a great deal about mental health and the importance of accessibility in supporting well-being. Researching mental health issues, learning about different coping strategies, and gathering resources for users expanded my understanding of how powerful community and information can be. I also deepened my technical knowledge by building a fully functional website using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, learning how to integrate interactive elements and ensure that the platform was easy to navigate.

Building the Project:

Building Mental Tea was both challenging and rewarding. I started by outlining the essential pages: Home, Info, Mood Quiz, Advice, and Connect. Each page serves a distinct purpose, from providing educational content to offering a quiz to assess moods and giving users immediate access to support. I used HTML for structure, CSS for design, and JavaScript for interactive features. The biggest hurdle was ensuring that the user experience was intuitive and that the information was presented in an engaging way.

One of the major challenges was embedding videos from YouTube while ensuring they were properly styled and responsive. I spent considerable time adjusting the layout, making sure the videos looked great across devices. Another challenge was ensuring that the platform remained accessible and user-friendly, especially when creating the mood quiz feature, where users’ responses directly led to personalized suggestions.

Challenges Faced:

One of the biggest challenges I faced was finding a balance between aesthetics and functionality. The platform needed to be visually appealing and engaging but also easy to navigate, with a focus on accessibility for all users. Additionally, ensuring that the information provided was accurate, up-to-date, and helpful involved extensive research and collaboration with mental health professionals.

Another challenge was the time commitment. As I was also balancing other projects, dedicating the time necessary to build the platform and test it thoroughly required focus and discipline.

Reflection:

Despite the challenges, building Mental Tea has been an incredibly fulfilling experience. It has not only helped me grow as a developer but has also reinforced my passion for promoting mental health awareness. I’ve learned the importance of creating spaces where people feel seen, heard, and supported.

Through this project, I hope to continue breaking the stigma surrounding mental health and make a lasting impact on those who use it. Ultimately, Mental Tea is more than just a website—it’s my contribution to a much-needed movement toward prioritizing mental well-being and fostering a supportive community.
