Inspiration

Ever seen Apple’s curated memories photos that make you reminisce good times? Or scrolled through your profile page on Instagram to look back? We were inspired to help everyone create their “Book of Life.” Jot down moments you want to capture, add snapshots, and music to fit the mood. We wanted to give users the power to capture all of their highs and lows by allowing posts to be shared either privately or publicly.

What it does

Our project takes in multimedia (text, images, music) and generates customizable comic on the platform. It’s designed to support multiple comic styles with training for frequent characters (your friends!).

Challenges we ran into

Creating an intuitive user experience was a challenging task, so we worked on features for users to be able to have the most control on their generated visuals.

What we learned

We learned a lot about fine-tuning models & architectures that support model training for comic generation specifically. We also learned a lot about the pain points that comic creators face as we tried to conceptualize how our project can expand to streamline their artwork & build professional creative tools for AI assisted comic creation.

What's next for Merse

Expanding the style offerings for image generation as well as overall image quality. We also hope to train our own models for better comic layout generation — starting with Korea’s immensely popular Webtoon format and expanding beyond.
