Here is our Mood State Checklist to help user review their day and mood.
It will show the scale of depression a user might have based on their answer.
Inspiration: The birth of a baby can trigger a jumble of powerful emotions, from excitement and joy to fear and anxiety. However, it also results in something you might not expect — depression. Some new moms experience a more severe, long-lasting form of depression known as postpartum depression. Rarely, an extreme mood disorder called postpartum psychosis also may develop after childbirth. Moms tend to hurt themselves and get into a more severe state. However, they are the only ones who can get themselves out of trouble. We are only here to make the process easier, and we hope to change their perspective and encourage positivity after childbirth. We want to ensure that moms take care of themselves, concentrate on improving their physical and mental health.
What it does: It is a technological diary for users to freely write their posts or thoughts. Therefore, we believe that it's really important to write and share your thoughts even to yourselves while suffering depression. One of the most common ways we can help postpartum depression patients is to help them reframe their thinking. Changing thinking can help patients change their perception, worldview, thereby changing negative emotions in a more positive direction. Therefore, we believe that THINKING DETERMINES EMOTION. To make users happier, we created Reminder as the heart of the website which is placed right above the sharing box. We believe that a good mood is a key to a good life. Therefore, we remind them to take care of themselves by sending motivational quotes about their skincare routine, exercises, and daily diet every day from morning until midnight. We encourage them to think positive and will always be beside them anytime when they need it. We always believe that simple sentences but full of love and positivity will bring a fresher atmosphere to users when they read those reminders. By repeating these cute words, we hope users will change their feelings about themselves every day to become better. Then, we also provide the ask_for_help tab just in case people have any questions. Moreover, we also provide Mood State Checklist for users to review their days and mood. There are 5 questions based on information from Edinburgh Postnatal Scale equivalent to 15 points in total. From there, we can come up with 4 predictable scales to determine whether a user might be depressed or not. From 0 to 2: You are doing well! From 3 to 5: You need an amount of time to relax. From 6 to 8: 50% chance of depression in a day. Higher than 8: high likelihood of depression.
How we built it: A coder in our team build the frontend by utilizing VueJS for the web. Then, Java Android for website on mobile. For the backend, our team uses Spring boot to build the rest of the API for the frontend to use. The web is implemented on a webserver named Nginx.
Challenges we ran into Mental Health for Women during and after giving birth.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: We can complete our website as we expected to have at first. We are also proud of our application which has helpful features for other users.
What we learned We learn a lot while researching postpartum depression to come up with a website with all mentioned functions. Moreover, we also learned more experience in coding to achieve the highest quality for our products.
What's next for MomMom: We hope to have an improvement for the web to optimize its advantages and usages by adding an AI feature to determine and predict the depression scale of a user.
