About the Project
Inspiration
We all believe in financial freedom and know that financial literacy is the first step toward achieving it. However, women face unique financial challenges in today's world—women live longer on average, yet they often earn less due to the gender pay gap and are subject to extra costs from the "pink tax." These disparities make financial literacy even more critical for women, empowering them to secure their financial futures and take control of their lives. MoneyMuse was inspired by our desire to bridge this gap and create a supportive, accessible space for women to learn, grow, and achieve financial independence.
What it Does
We created a high-fidelity prototype of a web application called MoneyMuse. The platform offers a variety of features tailored to support women on their financial journeys:
- Financial Education Hub: Basic information about different types of bank accounts and financial terminology.
- Savings Tracker: A tool that users can link to their bank accounts, allowing them to set and track personal savings goals.
- Investing Basics: A page dedicated to teaching foundational investment concepts, designed to make investing approachable for beginners.
- Retirement Calculator: An interactive calculator that helps users determine how much they need to save monthly to prepare for a secure retirement.
These features are designed to foster financial literacy and confidence, making finance accessible and empowering.
How We Built It
To bring MoneyMuse to life, we designed our prototype on Figma. We wanted a high-fidelity prototype that we could test with potential users to gather feedback on usability and value. By focusing on the visual and functional aspects of the platform first, we could refine our design and improve the user experience based on real feedback.
Challenges We Ran Into
One of our biggest challenges was deciding on the best way to create and demo our product. We debated between building a minimum viable product or a high-fidelity prototype. Ultimately, we opted for a Figma prototype, which allowed us to quickly develop and test our ideas without committing to complex code early on. Another challenge was ensuring that each feature would be user-friendly and visually engaging for our target audience.
Accomplishments That We're Proud Of
- Building a Full Product: We designed a comprehensive, user-centric prototype for a platform that addresses a real need.
- Positive User Feedback: Early feedback has been encouraging, and it’s validating to know our platform resonates with users.
- Creating a Tool for Women: We’re excited to have built something meaningful specifically for women’s financial empowerment.
- Making a Difference: Our project has the potential to improve day-to-day financial literacy, encouraging women to take charge of their finances.
- Reimagining Banking for Inclusivity: We’re proud to have developed a product that brings a fresh perspective to financial education.
What We Learned
Throughout this process, we gained both technical and soft skills, including:
- Figma and UI/UX Design: Creating a high-fidelity prototype taught us the importance of intuitive design and effective user experiences.
- Financial Literacy Topics for Women: We explored key areas of financial literacy, such as budgeting, investing, and savings strategies tailored for women.
- Time Management and Organization: Working within hackathon constraints helped us improve our scheduling and organizational skills.
- Teamwork and Collaboration: We learned the value of delegation, open communication, and collaborative problem-solving.
- User-Centric Design: Building with the end-user in mind reminded us of the importance of empathy and adaptability in product design.
What's Next for MoneyMuse
We’re thrilled about the future of MoneyMuse! Our next steps are to transition from a prototype to a full web application, building out the functionality to enable real interactions, calculations, and secure connections with financial data. Once developed, we hope to launch MoneyMuse to the public, helping women everywhere build financial confidence and independence.
