Inspiration

Ever felt depressed? In unprecedented pandemic times, we are all isolated to some extent in one way or another. Some of us are far away from friends and family with no immediate support system to lean on. As such, we came up with a system that lets you keep track of your friends and loved ones and in turn, they can look after you too - the mood meter.

What it does

The mood meter aims to reflect how you feel by initialising your mood with a set of survey questions at the start of every day. Afterwards, you have the option to increase or decrease your 'mood level' and save it to your profile. If your mood decreases below a certain threshold, a notification will be sent out to your friends to notify them to check up on you! Your home page also includes a list of all your friends and their respective mood meters so you can keep an eye on them as well.

How we built it

We used a Google-API to authenticate our users, firebase and node.js to create our back end and figma and react to make our front end.

Challenges we ran into

Our biggest challenge was one that we feared from the start. We tried to come up with an idea that would have a fairly manageable scope but as it turns out, it always grows to become way larger than what we originally anticipated.

Many team members also had minimal experience coming into this hackathon, however we managed to help each other learn something new and foster a great experience altogether.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have worked as a team harmoniously to come up with an interesting solution to the social and psychological problem that we all face during the pandemic. As we worked on our app, we could see ourselves coming back and continuing to develop it in the future to potentially get it across to everybody.

What we learned

For most of us, it was our first time creating a full-stack application as a team. We have a foundational knowledge of how every part of the application fits together and I think each of us all gained valuable insight into different parts of the stack that we worked on.

What's next for Mood Meter

Everyone in our group is pretty fond of the idea and is looking forward to further developing the app whilst also working on our individual skillsets. We all look forward to collaborating again in the future.
