Inspiration
You buy your first house. You are excited that you have finally achieved the American dream. However, your dream quickly turns into a nightmare. Repairs and other expenses quickly add up, causing you to spiral into major debt. Unable to maintain your lifestyle, you are forced to foreclose. The house you were so proud of, repossessed.
What it does
Through this game, we hope to help new homeowners avoid this fate. They will learn about handling homeowners insurance and navigating random disasters. It is vital to teach young people about this to ensure their future retirement and long-term happiness.
How we built it
We used JavaScript for the back end and most of the front end. We used HTML to make it web compatible. The back end used a random feature to give the homeowner up to one disaster per month, with incident having a certain monetary consequence.
Challenges we ran into
We were all back end focused programmers with very little experienced with UX-focused languages.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We learned how to implement a game in JavaScript within 24 hours.
What we learned
We learned how to research data, read documentation, and develop a usable UX software.
What's next for Moving In!
We hope to develop the UX more, add more disasters, and enhance the realism of the fees associated with owning a house.
