Providence has the worst income inequality in the state and there is a growing disparity between neighborhoods such as College Hill and the South Side.

The heavy air and water pollution the heavy industrialisation around the Port of Providence heavily impacts the South Side of Providence. The South Side—a majority Hispanic and Black neighborhood—now has one of the highest rates of asthma in Southern New England. A third of the population lives under the poverty line. The median family income is $23,379. College Hill—a majority white neighborhood—possess median family income of $121,521 and a 5% poverty rate.

This is where data comes in.

Data is an essential component of empowering legislative change and ground-level activism. It’s democratization and accessibility for the general public is vital to securing social change. Yet the average citizen is not given the help or access to contextualize the data that is available.

We want to change this.
