Inspiration

Raima's brother is very weak in multiplication so we have decided to make a website that makes learning multiplication easier and fun. We want to create a community where learning is fun and not boring. Even teachers can use our website to give primary kids some fun challenges to do.

What it does

The project is supposed to make multiplication practice more fun! All you got to do is answer multiplication questions, for each wrong answer one life is lost, and for each right answer , you get 5 points. There are 20 questions so if you complete all 20 and score a point of 100, you are done! Especially these times when a lot of kids are stuck at home during lockdowns, it is also an educational way to pass time.

How we built it

The project was built using html, CSS and javascript.

Challenges we ran into

All members of the team are beginners. Although some members were more familiar with a language or two, our experience in creating a whole application is very limited. We had to learn how to put different languages together and figure out the logic behind the game and translate it into javascript. We recognized that it is very important to communicate actively, as we are required to work together virtually and internationally. Moreover we stumbled over difficulties about combining the distinct pieces of code and to track the latest version of all implementations. And we are very new to the whole process of submission (creating GitHub and Devpost accounts, recording a video, description of what we've done).

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We made a fully functioning project that takes user input and matches multiplication answers. This website has already been tested by little kids and they already love playing our multiplication challenge game ! This project will help add to the community that learning maths is very fun and schools can use our website to teach kids fun ways to learn maths.

What we learned

First of all, we all learned a lot about html, css and javascript, from basic syntax to more advanced concepts. Particularly interesting was the interaction between the three programming languages we used and how they fit together to create a whole website. Additionally, having members of four different countries, we gained a lot of experience by working internationally, exchanging about our culture and communicating in different time zones.

What's next for Multiplication Game

The interaction with the user could be more varied by challenging the kids to solve various mathematical tasks. The game can easily be extended with additional features, e.g. further mathematical tasks (like +, -, /). Moreover the type of the question can be simply changed, e.g. "2 * ? = 4" instead of "2 * 2 = ?".
