Inspiration

We wanted to make something that allowed people to interact with the world around them. People love to take pictures of their adventures on their phones, so we wanted to give people more than just a photo to remember something by.

What it does

MuseumAlive (name W.I.P) is a program that allows you to create 3D printed versions of the pictures of objects people make. Using QR codes and a built in scanner, a user could, for example, take a picture of a dog, and ultimately end up with a 3D printed version of that dog. This would create an alternative form of immersiveness (as well as revenue) for tourist locations like museums or small towns.

How we built it

Using Java, as well as the Android SDK, we incorporated the indico API to use photo recognition software to determine what should be 3D printed.

Challenges we ran into

Learning and developing in the android SDK was a challenge, but ultimately we came out with a much better knowledge of the kit. Also, many aspects of our program are not currently available for the newest Android API (23). Luckily, one of our team members has an android device running an older version, which allowed us to test our app.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We got the app to run, and we were able to (start) to make it look presentable.

What we learned

We learned that the internet has many resources for an aspiring Android developer!

What's next for MuseumAlive

Further development to include more examples. We only included a small list of codes that work for presentation purposes.
