Inspiration
NaturAlert started to give people early notice of dangerous weather. The goal is to use data science to protect communities and support global goals like safer cities, better health, climate action, and ecosystem protection.
What it does
NaturAlert predicts natural disasters in real time. It analyzes weather data, historical patterns, and risk factors to warn you about floods, storms, hurricanes, and extreme weather. It also supports social good by helping cities, healthcare systems, and conservation teams act on reliable data.
How we built it
We combined machine learning models, real-time weather feeds, and an AI assistant. The backend uses Python and FastAPI. The frontend uses React and a 3D globe to show global risk. Open weather APIs provide live data. Historical records support long term pattern analysis. Google Gemini gives clear explanations and safety guidance.
Challenges we ran into
Weather data comes in different formats. Some regions lack reliable records. Models must avoid unfair bias. Real time prediction needs fast processing. Communicating risk clearly to non experts required careful design.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Accurate multi hazard risk scoring. Live global coverage with local detail. A fast 3D globe that shows weather systems in motion. An SOS alert feature that supports emergencies. AI guidance that helps people understand risks. Support for key sustainable development goals.
What we learned
Clear information saves time. Local context improves predictions. Open data accelerates innovation. Collaboration with climate experts, city planners, and health teams boosts impact.
What’s next for NaturAlert
Improve long term climate trend detection. Add mobile alerts and more languages. Expand tools for cities, hospitals, and conservation teams. Support more open datasets. Strengthen global coverage to reach vulnerable communities.
