Inspiration
One of the key reasons why people get less pay is because people don't ask for it, so we thought how can we help people create a custom negotiation email template, as per their skills , gender and levels. We also wanted to build something for minority communities like LGBTQ+ and Women, so we built a job search feature for them.
What it does
The website appears to have two primary features:
Customized Salary Negotiation Template:Users can generate a customized salary negotiation template based on their resume. The template is tailored to their skills and expertise, making it suitable for discussing salary negotiations with potential employers.
Job Search with Filtering: The website provides a job search feature with filtering options. Users can search for job listings based on criteria such as skillset, gender, and skill level. It seems to be particularly focused on providing opportunities for LGBTQ+ individuals and women.
Additionally, the website emphasizes accessibility, ensuring that it can be used by individuals with disabilities, including those who rely on keyboard navigation.
In summary, the website offers tools for creating personalized salary negotiation templates and facilitates job searches with a focus on inclusivity and accessibility for various user groups, including LGBTQ+ and women.
How we built it
So we used typescript to build user home page and navar as it's more readable and easier to understand than JS and we used resume parsing algorithm to fetch and display the resume data and on the basis of the resume data we put the values and customised the template. We then made job search feature by taking some JSON data and performing filtering option so that we can show the job relevant to people on the basis on their genders to LGBTQ+ and Women specific openings and also to people with specific skillset, we also used auth0 and add focus and alt text to make our website more accessible.
Challenges we ran into
One of my team member was working upon job filter feature and while I was working on creating the negotiation feature, since the tech stack was different we struggled a lot to integrate it, but we finally integrate it in the navbar as you can see that we have implemented both job search and generating negotiation template.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are really happy that we could build an inclusive website that will help people from LGBTQ+ and women find the jobs because even though there are such websites for women but there is rarely such website for getting job opportunities for LGBTQ+. Also we ensured that it's accessible to all the people even for people with disabilities who can't see or use mouse for navigation by building every features accessible from keyboard. We were able to build something impactful for everyone.
What we learned
This was our first ever hackathon, and it was really amazing, from working with new technologies like Auth0 to including keyboard navigation feature, it was indeed a new experience for us. We also learnt how to work with JSON data files and implementation of Resume parsing algorithm from which we parsed the resume to create negotiation template. It was a great learning experience and we enjoyed a lot.
What's next for NegotiateHere
We will build a feature where people from different genders and communities can have a meetup so that they can network with each other.
