Inspiration

We started with a simple question: why does something as basic as walking have to hurt? Millions of people live with foot pain every day; from patients recovering from fractures, to people with flat feet, to pregnant women who can’t even stand comfortably. We realized they all had something in common: outdated, one-size-fits-all insoles that either don’t fit properly, take months of medical appointments to get, and end up as toxic waste when they wear out. That frustration and the desire to give people comfort, accessibility, and sustainability at the same time became the inspiration behind NeuroSole.

What it does

NeuroSole is an AI-powered platform that designs fully customized, eco-friendly 3D-printed insoles in hours instead of months. With just a simple foot scan, our AI generates a precise STL model and creates a perfect insole tailored to the individual. Users can either 3D print it immediately or save their universal foot profile using Persona. This late shoe companies and doctors can use across multiple brands and use cases. It’s a platform for personalized comfort, scalable healthcare efficiency, and sustainable footwear innovation.

How we built it

We started by collecting foot scan data and researching the biomechanics of support design. From there, we developed an AI pipeline that translates scan data into accurate 3D foot profiles. Using this, we generated STL files optimized for 3D printing. We integrated eco-friendly filament choices to ensure sustainability was baked into the product from the start. Our backend handles the Persona storage system which a universal profile that makes every future insole design faster, cheaper, and instantly compatible with footwear companies. We have also used Commure and taken inspiration so that doctors don't have to spend hours writing enormous amounts of patient data and doing computer tasks. Finally, we tested designs with rapid prototyping, tweaking the AI model until it could produce insoles that were both supportive and comfortable.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was balancing accuracy with accessibility. Foot biomechanics are highly complex, and designing insoles that provide genuine medical-level support required deep research and iteration. On top of that, integrating sustainability wasn’t straightforward and many footwear insoles are not biodegradable, so sourcing eco-friendly materials that still had the durability required for daily wear was tough. Another hurdle was creating the Persona system: ensuring that a single universal profile could be compatible across different brands and use cases required solving for flexibility without sacrificing accuracy.

Accomplishments that we’re proud of

We’re proud that we created something that isn’t just a hackathon demo but has the potential to truly improve lives. Compressing a months-long, appointment-heavy medical process into hours feels like a major breakthrough. We’re also proud of our Persona system, which introduces the idea of a universal shoe identity that can streamline the footwear industry itself. Finally, building sustainability directly into the design not as an afterthought makes us proud that NeuroSole doesn’t just help people, but also helps the planet.

What we learned

We learned how much untapped potential there is when healthcare, AI, and sustainability intersect. We discovered that innovation doesn’t have to choose between comfort and the environment both can be solved together if you build thoughtfully. On the technical side, we deepened our understanding of biomechanics, AI modeling, and 3D printing optimization. On the human side, we learned how powerful it is to design for real pain points that affect millions of people daily.

What’s next for NeuroSole

We want to expand NeuroSole into a platform that integrates directly with footwear companies, doctors, and clinics worldwide. Imagine buying shoes already customized to your Persona, and doctors instantly prescribing tailored insoles without months of wait time. We’re also exploring partnerships with hospitals and rehabilitation centers to bring relief to patients faster. Finally, we plan to continue advancing our sustainability mission, testing new biodegradable materials that balance strength and comfort. The future of NeuroSole is simple: all feet, all people, all steps.
