Inspiration

The inspiration for Nexus Learn stemmed from our own experience transitioning from high school to college. High school felt like a constant struggle. We'd listen to lectures in class, then have a hard time applying the concepts to our homework. We spent so much time searching for outside help, like YouTube videos, that we had little time left to truly learn the material. Entering college, we encountered the flipped classroom model. Learning the basics through videos and readings before class, then using class time to stimulate our problem-solving skills, made us notice the significant impact of being able to comprehend and retain information. This approach transformed the classroom from a place of passive listening to a dynamic space for collaboration and genuine understanding.

What it does

This stark contrast ignited the idea for Nexus Learn. Our vision was to create a platform that would bring the power of the flipped classroom to high school students everywhere. Nexus Learn is just a place for video lectures; it would be a complete platform with interactive videos, social forums, and various teaching styles in the videos.

How we built it

We used the AI platform Lovable, which developed a simple prototype representation of our product, mostly in TypeScript. After the AI developed a skeleton prototype of our application, we built upon the prototype as our vision for our startup itself evolved over time. Ultimately, the current product is simply a demo; however, it holistically captures the idea and vision for Nexus Learn.

Challenges we ran into

Finding a niche in education that will be impactful and revolutionize high school education. Another major challenge was navigating the legal side of the content license agreement, which would be uploaded and engaged by the students on this platform. We had to spend extra time discovering the logistics of keeping content and how to design Nexus Learn in a way that respects creators’ rights while still being accessible to students.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have developed a full demo for what was a very ambitious idea. Nexus Learn is both a two-way marketplace and a learning management platform. Thus, we are very proud that we were able to demo the student view, teacher view, as well as the course builder for the academic institutions’ view. We are also proud of how our idea developed and evolved throughout the hackathon, as we researched the flipped classroom/current educational system status and found the specific niche we were passionate about solving. We are proud that our platform can display the various courses, as well as each individual student’s progress. Our platform features a teacher view that models how teachers run their classes.

What we learned

We learned to express our creativity and implement our ideas of creating this platform with multiple educators having different videos with the same content to see which of these videos would allow for the students to receive the highest quality education.

What's next for Nexus Learn

Nexus Hub is our answer to reinvent education and create a collaborative space for educators all across the nation to share their lectures to help improve education. It’s a tool to empower students, give teachers more time to mentor, and fundamentally shift the focus of education from information delivery to hands-on engagement. We are striving
