Inspiration
In Sudan, access to medical help depends on more than distance. Sometimes it’s about connection—not having the internet, not having anyone to call. We realized that people weren’t dying because help didn’t exist. They were dying because no one heard them. Nidaa (Arabic for “Call”) is our attempt to answer.
What it does
Nidaa is a lightweight web platform that connects people in medical emergencies with local volunteers—doctors, students, and helpers willing to respond. No login required to ask for help.
Requesters remain anonymous.
Volunteers are verified and manually assigned.
Each request gets a tracking ID to check or cancel anytime.
Users describe their emergency, location, and phone number. Volunteers are notified and assigned based on region. Once matched, the volunteer can accept or decline the case.
Privacy by Design
We know health data is sensitive. That’s why: Only assigned volunteers can see personal request data.
Admins manually verify and assign volunteers.
Users now give consent before submitting their request.
Phone numbers and names are optional unless necessary for help.
A full privacy policy is linked on the form.
How we built it
Next.js frontend for speed and simplicity.
Firebase Realtime Database for storing and syncing requests.
Role-based access for volunteers and admins only.
Geolocation filters (in progress) to improve matching accuracy.
Challenges we ran into
Balancing speed with privacy and safety.
Volunteer verification without external partnerships.
Filtering requests by region while maintaining data security.
Creating a functional MVP with limited resources and infrastructure.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Building an MVP that prioritizes people, not just code.
Letting anyone ask for help—even without an account.
Creating a system where admins control access, not just automation.
Designing with dignity, consent, and simplicity at the core.
What we learned
Prioritization, as not all features should be in once, even the critical once due the low resources.
Communcation is the key when ever a problem arises or choosing what ti implement.
Systems can be hard to build but breaking things down helps achieve what seams to be impossiable.
What's next for Nidaa - نداء
Our vision is to serve even those without internet—via voice calls and speech-to-text flows in Sudanese Arabic. We’re working on: Voice-based IVR system with regional detection.
NGO & hospital partnerships to onboard trusted volunteers.
Volunteer heatmaps and live dashboards.
Arabic text-to-speech integration for accessibility.
Nidaa isn’t just an app. It’s a promise: “Wherever you are, someone will hear you.”
