Inspiration
We wanted to create a food tracker app that encourages healthy eating happens for everyone, such as highlighting protein, fiber, and vitamins. Most apps that exist emphasize calorie tracking and portion control which can lead to unhealthy eating habits.
What it does
nourristar allows users to upload recipes and explore other user-created recipes. In addition, users may add photos and tag their own recipes with labels like "vegetarian" and "fiber rich" to allow for more personalized searching.
How we built it
We used Node.js and Express for the backend, MongoDB for storing user and recipe data, JWT for user authentication, and React for the frontend.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into challenges connecting the frontend and backend and creating the login page and persisting the username throughout the pages.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
CUTE ASS UI/UX and logo! Functioning website!
What we learned
Debugging.
What's next for nourristar
We'd like to add private rewards for users, such as meeting a daily fiber and protein goal. It would also be cool to allow users to click on ingredients to view easy substitutions, such as swapping eggs for bananas in baking recipes.
