To start, have you ever been to a grocery store then come back home to realize that you completely forget to buy the one thing you were meant to go to the grocery store for. Well, pet owners are no different from us and sometimes, they might forget to restock on their pet’s food.
To solve this problem, we have come up with a solution of creating an app that is seamless and convenient for our smart pet owners to remind them to buy their pet’s food. What is even better is that their dog’s food is delivered straight to their door since they will be placing their order online.
Nutripaws is an app that is linked to your pet’s smart food dispenser and shows the food dispenser level in real time. The user will link their smart food dispenser which from other research shows that it may be using a weight sensor that is linked to an Arduino board. This system is connected to a wifi and will be transmitting the weight data to the Blynk server, and we will extract that data to display it in a more visually appealing way in our app. The app makes sure that you will never forget to buy your pet’s food again through alerting you whenever the food dispenser reaches below 20% and with just 2 clicks of a button, your pet’s food order would be placed. You can also manually place your pet’s favorite food through our app.
To make this clearer we have a demo of our app to present. When you first enter the app, the food log page shows how much food is left in the food dispenser. Below the dispenser level, users are able to switch to a different type of food for when the user has a variety of pet food. They can also add their pet’s favorite food in the favorite's page by clicking the heart then the plus button with an amazon link to their favorite dog food which would embed the food details into our app. Furthermore, users can manually buy their pet’s food by clicking the buy button that is beside their pet’s favorite food. In the profile page the user can update and see their pet's important details and even add a cute profile picture for their pet. This is also where they add their own details, such as name, contact details, address, and payment details, so the order would be sent to them. Lastly, our most important feature is when the level of the food dispenser is below 20%, the user will be alerted to a message that would ask if they would like to place an order to restock. Once the user clicks buy, they will be redirected to the order information page to confirm their details and submit their order.
In the future, we believe that this app would not be just limited to smart pet owners with smart pet food dispensers. As smart home appliances become more and more accessible to users, smart dispensers will be normalized in homes and the logic behind this app can be applied then. Not only that, we believe that if people switch over to restocking essentials in their dispenser instead of rebuying products in whole, this would be more environmentally friendly as there would be less product package waste. Furthermore, this app can be further enhanced if we work more closely with smart food dispenser producers to better cooperate our system with theirs.
In conclusion, forgetting to restock pet food is a problem some of the pet owners have, and we can solve this through Nutripaws, which is an app that updates the food dispenser level in real time and alerts whenever the stock runs low. Users can easily place their order in just a few clicks and change their details in the profile section. We believe that as this app is improved especially with the connection to the smart food dispenser sensors, this will have a place in the future where this would not just be targeted to pet owners but smart home owners as well where smart dispensers would be normalized for a better environmental future.
