Inspiration
Our inspiration is the fact that that we couldn't find any information regarding food monitoring and diet tracking in space. Due to this, we wanted to fill this gap to improve space exploration.
What it does
Nutrispace allows astronauts (in this case ourselves) to see how they can improve their diet based on the specific meals throughout the day. We will show them exactly what nutrients they need to improve their diet and meet physician's recommendations. We will also be able to monitor how much is available on the space shuttle and predict how long the food will last based on the rate of consumption. This will help prevent food shortages and plan future trips.
How we built it
We built it with HTML and CSS. It is currently in the prototype stage and it does not accept user input, however, we have created a semi-functional prototype using these two languages.
Challenges we ran into
It was challenging to come up with an idea. Most of the ideas had already existed or were not reasonable or could not be created. When it came to coding, our team didn't have the skills to know how to accept input from a user with HTML and CSS, so we had to work around this. Our prototype is not completely functional and due to this is only semi-functional.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our presentation is well put together and we are very satisfied with our idea. The program is also what we expected, which is another achievement that we are happy with.
What we learned
We learned how to collaborate as a team and make a finished product that we are all happy with and we also learned how to overcome problems that we experienced along the way.
What's next for NutriSpace
If our idea gets a good response from many, we will learn more programming languages to make our prototype, fully-functional and more polished. We will then make an effort to publish it based on how space agencies and larger corporations respond. We will conduct surveys to see the response.
