Inspiration

One Protocol draws inspiration from two transformative initiatives: the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). UPI has revolutionised digital payments in India, enabling seamless and secure transactions between individuals and businesses. ONDC is pioneering a decentralised approach to e-commerce, creating a more open and equitable marketplace. We aim to combine the strengths of these initiatives to develop a unified health interface that empowers patients and transforms healthcare delivery.

What it does

One Protocol serves as both a unifying layer and an open network, seamlessly bridging the gap between disparate healthcare systems and connecting together all medical service providers. It facilitates appointment booking, secure payment transactions, ambulance booking, video calling with doctors for first aid, and more, all through a single, user-friendly interface. Inspired by UPI's ease of use and widespread adoption, One Protocol strives to become the go-to platform for healthcare interactions, from routine appointments to time-sensitive emergency medical care.

How we built it

We built One Protocol on top of Beckn, an open protocol designed for e-commerce transactions. This foundation provides a robust and scalable framework for building interoperable solutions. Just as ONDC leverages Beckn to create an open e-commerce ecosystem, we adapted Beckn's APIs and message formats to meet the specific needs of the healthcare industry. This ensures compatibility with various healthcare systems and data formats, fostering a truly unified network, enabling efficient emergency medical care coordination.

We have built One protocol and a provider for health care service and an ambulance booking platform on top of one protocol

Challenges we ran into

One of the primary challenges we faced was the lack of readily available resources and documentation regarding the Beckn protocol. As a relatively new protocol, Beckn's documentation and implementation guidelines were still evolving, making it difficult to fully grasp its technical specifications and nuances. This lack of comprehensive resources posed a challenge in integrating One Protocol seamlessly with the Beckn ecosystem and ensuring compatibility with other Beckn-enabled applications.

To overcome this challenge, we connected with person worked on ONDC to gain a deeper understanding of the beckn protocol thus we were able to bridge the resource gap and effectively implement One Protocol within the Beckn framework.

Another challenge we encountered was the need to adapt Beckn's APIs and message formats to meet the specific needs of the healthcare industry. Healthcare data often has unique characteristics and formats that differ from traditional e-commerce data. This required us to extend Beckn's capabilities to accommodate healthcare-specific data types and communication patterns. We worked closely with healthcare providers and experts to identify these requirements and develop appropriate extensions to the Beckn protocol.

By addressing these challenges, we have successfully leveraged the Beckn protocol to create a unified health interface that empowers patients, streamlines healthcare interactions, and promotes interoperability. One Protocol's adoption and integration with the Beckn ecosystem can contribute significantly to the advancement of a more connected, efficient, and patient-centric healthcare system.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of developing a unified health interface that streamlines the process of accessing healthcare services, including emergency medical care. One Protocol has the potential to revolutionise the healthcare industry by promoting interoperability, improving patient care, reducing administrative burdens, and fostering innovation, much like UPI revolutionised digital payments and ONDC is transforming e-commerce.

What we learned

We learned the importance of collaboration, open standards, and innovation in addressing complex healthcare challenges, especially in emergency medical care. One Protocol's success hinges on the participation of healthcare providers, patients, technology partners, and policymakers. By embracing open standards, fostering collaboration, and nurturing innovation, we can create a more connected, efficient, and equitable healthcare system, inspired by the transformative impact of UPI and ONDC.

What's next for One Protocol

We are committed to expanding the reach of One Protocol by on boarding more healthcare providers and partners. We are also exploring integrating additional features, such as telemedicine, remote patient monitoring, and data analytics, to further enhance the patient experience and empower healthcare providers to deliver better care, including emergency medical services. Our goal is to make One Protocol the cornerstone of a truly unified, patient-centric, open, and interoperable healthcare ecosystem, ensuring timely and effective emergency medical care for all.
