Inspiration
The goal to build Our Wok into a successful business model is to provide people an opportunity to help reduce their carbon footprint. We also aim to increase employment by allowing people in the neighborhood to walk or bike their way to the restaurant and then to their delivery destination.
What it does
Our Wok is a website that pairs customers and delivery persons who live in close vicinity to each other and allows them to place orders at restaurants that are at a walkable distance from them. To avoid multiple trips, customers can either add their order to the live orders at the same restaurant or add an order for a different restaurant that is close by. The delivery person will be notified of the orders and will pick up all the orders that are near him/her.
How we built it
This website is a front-end only prototype, with no backend functionality and database. We used HTLML5, JavaScript, and CSS for all the designing of this project.
Challenges we ran into
The original idea that we had in mind was to create an application. We had started using flutter, only to realize that it required MacOS. Therefore, to avoid any further delays, we opted for a website instead.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the final model despite all the hardships we faced along the way. The idea is an innovative approach to the already existing food delivery algorithms in the market which we hope would positively influence the future of transportation
What we learned
In our approach to building the application system, we learned a lot about flutter and react.
What's next for Our Wok
We will be attempting to make this an official application rather than a website. We will also be implementing the needed backend and database. Once completed, we hope to use it by approaching interested food outlets and investors.
Story behind the name
Our Wok is a play on the words "our walk", as this project was meant to motivate people to walk to help pickup orders for their neighbors.
