A mobile app for communication between roommates built around a system of "pings"

Inspiration

We realized that living together is not so pleasant when different roommates have different expectations about cleanliness, organization, noise level, etc. We wanted to devise a method to avoid the sort of tension that arises from these conflicts.

What it does

A user can join or create a "home," and within that home, roommates can "ping" each other icons that represent certain tasks to be completed ("Take out trash," "Do your dishes," etc). Users can view their pings on a Notifications panel and swipe them off the list upon completion of a task.

How we built it

We programmed in Swift and Parse to build stuff

Challenges we ran into

Storyboarding was pretty new to most of us, so it took a while to get used to. We weren't sure how to deal with storyboard merging conflicts either.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Learned a lot of stuff about iOS development
  • Learned how to use Parse
  • Finished a hackathon project
