Inspiration
We originally wanted to create a collar that tracks the health of pets. However, we decided to simplify the idea and create an app that allows users to store information about them instead!
What it does
The mobile app stores the information of the user and their pet(s). This allows the user to create schedules for them. This may include setting appointments at nearby veterinarian clinics or searching for nearby dog parks.
How we built it
We built the app using both frontend (react-native) and backend (Python-Django) technologies.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge was having to complete a working app within the three day time limit. The process is very time consuming because of our heavy emphasis on the attention-to-detail.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud that we were able to get our startup idea up and running on a prototype. We hope that we can create a larger community that brings pet owners together and benefits the health of pets around the world.
What we learned
This was not an easy job. A lot of details are required for this type of project. However, the app shows a lot of potential to reach a wider audience. Hopefully, we can start locally!
What's next for PawPal
The next goal is to not only complete the mobile app, but hopefully combine it with QR code technology. The idea is to place a QR code on a pet's collar which allows anybody to access the dog's profile within the application database.
