Inspiration

While thinking of ideas for what project I wanted to tackle, I researched what issues relating to inaccessibility people faced when it came to technology. Among the many results, I read a story about a woman who could not remember her numerous passwords, and would write them down on a sheet of paper to remember them—which was against her company's policies. I realized that I also faced the same problem in my own life, and used a note-taking app—a very unsafe and unorganized method—to store all my passwords. I also wanted to steer away from relying on auto-fill features that many search engines have, because of how danger-prone that feature would be. So I decided that I wanted to design an app that would be a longer lasting, better solution to problem.

What it does

My conceptual app design stores all of your passwords in one secure place so you only need to remember one password to have access to all of them. The app would also focus heavily on organization, so you can easily access your most used/favorite apps, websites, or accounts. Finally, it would also let you know the strength of your passwords, and whether they've been leaked in a data breach, so you know when to change them. I also wanted user experience to be fluid, smooth, and uncluttered—so it looks less like an Excel sheet, and more like an organized, simplistic list.

How I built it

I used Figma to design my prototype. I utilized several templates for the icons and thumbnail, and one component for a "favoriting" feature. I designed the rest of the flows, buttons, and designs.

Challenges I ran into

I wanted to make the "Most Used" scrolling gallery look different: so that the center icons would always be the largest, and iterate through the rest of the icons as you scroll. However, my knowledge of Figma was limited in that regard, and I could not figure out how to accomplish that visual feature. Another challenge I ran into was the color palette. While I knew I wanted a cool, fresh vibe—utilizing mainly blues and purples—I struggled figuring out what complementing colors would work the icons, logo, and buttons.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I'm proud of being able to get through the project and learning more about design and flows. While I wasn't able to have enough time to work on wireframes and design flows, I feel satisfied about my end product.

What I learned

I learned that planning is incredibly important. If I hadn't put a lot of time and effort into planning what exactly I wanted for the app and how I wanted it to look, I would have struggled a lot more during the designing process.

What's next for Enkey

Hopefully, I can add more features and create a website version of Enkey. And maybe in the future I can actually work on coding the app.
