Inspiration

People with allergies find it really hard to find places to eat; we wanted to make it easier for a very common allergy.

What it does

Peanut Free provides a community for people who are allergic to Peanuts. It finds restaurants near you and rates how prevalent peanuts are in this place (0 being peanut free). Users can add new restaurants and rate how prevalent peanuts are at these newer places.

How we built it

Using a combination of HTML, CSS, and Java, we created a user-friendly interface. Using session variables we stored users information. We also made use of sequel pro to keep track of our tables in a more visual manner.

Challenges we ran into

We had some trouble uploading images at first. We wrote our program on our school's computer science server and had trouble storing the images on the server. In the beginning a few of us were editing the same document and our work didn't save. We learned our lesson.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're really proud of the visual scaler when rating your new restaurant. At first we were planning on using a text box but we finally figured the scaler thing out!

What we learned

A lot. We really learned a lot about teamwork and the importance of finding a balance between dividing the work but also putting our brains together to solve a single problem.

What's next for Peanut Free

We want to add a commenting system. A system where users can comment on other users reviews. We would also like to add a feature that if enough people wrote negative replies, the initial blast about the restaurant will be taken down. Eventually, we also want to extend it to other nuts!
