Inspiration
Our team finds a passion in reimagining solutions to common problems that we face every day. It is with this in mind that we agreed that while social media makes it easier to communicate, remembering when and how to reach out to someone is a completely different hurdle. Due to our fast-paced digital culture and with the isolating nature of COVID, it is vital to be intentional about connecting with people. However, this can be difficult when presented with so many avenues of communication.
What it does
We present People Planner - a centralized platform for keeping track of and planning interactions across all channels. Thanks to the simplicity of the user interface creating and preserving connections become effortless. Users of People Planner can sync their contacts and frequently used messaging apps in order to organize and plan interactions. With the ability to create tags that summarize the content of your last exchange and custom reminders that prompt you to get touch soon, users can maintain and strengthen long-distance relationships with ease. Unlike competing life management and planning apps, the core of the People Planner is the relationships. You do not simply create a reminder; you set up a system to strengthen your relationship through consistent interaction. Furthermore, While platforms such as Instagram and Snapchat could try to set up similar notification systems, they cannot replace People Planner’s centralized way to manage communication across all social platforms.
How we built it
People Planner's current prototype was built with an iOS environment in mind, and was developed in Swift, specifically using Xcode to visualize and create our app
Challenges we ran into
We are completely new to mobile development. Every addition to our app was a hurdle. In addition, we knew what problem we wanted to solve, and we really needed to nail down just how to solve this issue. Also, fun fact: Xcode took 4 hours to install.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
It felt great seeing a design we had on paper become an actual UI on a screen
What we learned
Time management and communication were definitely developed well, as well as keeping expectations realistic
What's next for People Planner
People Planner is still in a prototype stage, and we want to continue developing our app. People Planner will begin solely as an app earning revenue through premium subscription earnings, and will eventually grow into a service that financially revolves around the users' patterns and offline interactions
