Inspiration
Research has shown that walking or biking significantly lowers one’s produced levels of CO2, and overall carbon footprint, by up to 84%. As the world’s carbon footprint grows, swapping out going in a car for a different form of active transportation can dramatically reduce the impacts of global carbon emissions.
We wanted to provide people around the world a greater incentive to contribute to the growing community of individuals who want to live a more sustainable lifestyle. FiFi uses the user’s personal fitness app to promote active transportation through challenges, which help them earn pearls to build a visual aquarium.
What it does
FiFi connects with a user's Fitbit account to help incentivize walking and biking as healthier and more sustainable transportation methods. Users earn pearls when they meet certain challenges, which are changed daily. They can use these pearls to purchase different types of fish, different backgrounds, and different plants.
How we built it
We came up with an idea together and then created a Figma document to start planning the UI portions of the app. We created a dynamic model that allows you to click between pages and shows what the product should look like and how it should function.
Challenges we ran into
One of our biggest challenges was working with the prototype aspects of Figma. Most of us had never used Figma before, and had never created an interactive prototype. We struggled with creating a loading home screen, as well as a functional scrolling screen.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Something that we were able to overcome that we are proud of is creating a dynamic loading bar and a functional scrolling mechanism on Figma.
What we learned
We learned the importance of solidifying an idea and figuring out the expectations for our end result. Through attempting to create this app in the limited time frame given, we realized the most important thing would be understanding the problem we wanted to help and the core functionality and user interface of the app. This led us to prioritize modeling the whole app, as opposed to working on chunks of it without a clear idea of the big picture.
What's next for FiFi - Fitness for Fish
For the future, we hope to expand FiFi's ability for friend sharing and create an interface that can allow for friendly competition. We also would like to include different levels with different types of animals (e.g. urban, amazon, dessert) so that when all the animals, backgrounds, and accessories are unlocked on one level, the user still has incentive to keep going.
