Inspiration
Forgetting to take your medication isn't cool, and Avicii, as well as your doctor, find it cool if you take your medication at the right time.
What it does
Using LEDs and a speaker, PiLLED gives audio and visual reminders for the user to take medication, as well as indicating which compartment to take medication from.
How we built it
3D printed a custom container housing the main electronics and 7 compartments for medication. An Arduino micro controls which LED turns on and when to sound the reminder alarm, with a force sensitive resistor letting it know when the box is opened to reset the alarm.
Challenges we ran into
We had trouble fitting the components into the chassis leading to some resizing of the components, didn't implement the force sensitive resistor correctly, putting it as an analog input instead of a digital one.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating a custom chassis, finishing our main criteria, learning about new components like the force sensitive resistor, and putting it all together in a package that's cleaner than we expected was rewarding.
What we learned
We learned how to implement analog components into a digital controlled circuit, how to create a timing mechanism in an Arduino with no external clock module, and how to work with the different inputs and outputs of an Arduino
What's next for PiLLED
IoT: adding text reminders, custom app to adjust reminder times, weight sensitive compartments to let the user know when to refill, and computer vision to store what medication is in which pod.
