Pill Daddy, the Future of Pill Taking

Inspiration

Pill Dispensers of today lack the ability to make the users life easier and instead serve as organizational tools. We felt that the elderly marketplace needed a product that took all of the responsibility and made pill taking seamless and easy. With the addition of modern technology, the applicable connection potential with other devices allows for ensured notification and limits the risk of forgetting your medication

What it does

Pill Daddy is a new type of pill dispensing and organization tool, with optional phone and Alexa (and more) connectivity you can now set up medication alarms which automatically dispense your medicine at the times you need, reliving day to day stress about whether or not you've taken your medicine yet.

  • Pill Daddy only requires the loading and designation of pills into each compartment
  • Pill Daddy will then ask a caretaker to load in the pill schedule
  • Pill daddy will then take the correct number of pills, at the correct time and dispense them into a container the customer has access to
  • Pill Daddy will connect to designated smart devices as well as use built in speaker to notify the user the pills are ready to be taken

How we built it

We built this product with independence in mind, a major issue in the market right now is everything is over complicated, and cannot be used from the app to the interface, we strive to make our product as easy as possible to use.

Challenges we ran into

A major roadblock we encountered was how was our pills going to dispense, giving an accurate amount of pills each time is no easy challenge, we went from passing around ideas of a funnel system with hinges, to a piston that pushes the pills up and over, but we landed on a gravity fed solution

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of our conceptual design and how we were able create a feasible design. Additionally our work with 3D modeling and AutoCAD to hep determine the physical structure of our product. We feel as though the product we have created has a real potential to break into not only the personal market but the healthcare and Hospital system making overall healthcare more efficient.

What we learned

We learned the importance of first addressing the major problems and the identifying the design constraints. Once all problems had been brought up, potential solutions were considered and we learned how often times the best solution is a combination of many separate ideas. We learned the importance of working in a team and how the presence of teammates oftentimes brings new perspectives to problems and the ability to merge all perspectives into the best solution brings the best results.

What's next for Pill Daddy

  • The biggest thing Pill Daddy needs is testing and physical prototyping.
  • A lot of technology such as Bluetooth and internet connection already exist and can be easily implemented
  • The biggest struggle will be in perfecting the pill dispensary system to ensure the right number of pills for pills any size
  • Material research
  • Continued support for programming
