Inspiration

Two members of our team have to take medication daily and have tried out various medication reminder apps only to find them unmotivating, repetitive, and with the only exciting features being blocked by paywalls. We wanted to create something different by making a fun, interactive app that aims to take care of a pet by remembering to take your medication every day.

What it does

PillPets has a timer feature that counts down and when it's time to take your medication, a button appears. When the button is pressed the sprite on the screen becomes happy. However, if you miss pressing the button on time, the sprite becomes sad and continues until the button is pressed.

How we built it

We built PillPets using Xcode with Swift UI. We created all the assets using pixilart.com.

Challenges we ran into

We had trouble dealing with merge conflicts as well as learning SwiftUI.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our animations and getting the button to work.

What we learned

This was one of our members' first time coding and she learned a lot. Additionally, we also learned how to make an app with Xcode which was a pretty new development tool for us.

What's next for PillPets

We want to expand our app by making it more customizable and allowing people to input their medications as well as the times they need to take them. This would then sync up with the timer system. We also would like to create more pets that can be unlocked by the number of days users have remembered taking their medication. We would also like to create a kid-friendly database where children can learn more about the medications that they are taking. Finally, our end goal is to create a widget that can be displayed on the home screen of the user's device, where they can see their pet, as well as how much time they have until they have to take their meds.
