Inspiration
The concept of Echoes of Pillars was inspired by ancient mythology, the idea of lost civilizations, and the pursuit of ultimate knowledge. The story draws influence from the fall of great empires and the mystery surrounding forgotten wisdom. We wanted to create an immersive experience where players could explore a shattered world, uncover its secrets, and face moral dilemmas along the way.
What it does
Echoes of Pillars is a mystery-adventure game set in the remnants of the kingdom of Elaria, where players navigate through ruins, solve puzzles, and battle Echo Hunters—beings who seek to claim the wisdom stored within the legendary Pillars. The game challenges players to decipher cryptic messages left behind and decide the fate of the Pillars.
How we built it
We developed the game using Godot Engine for smooth 2D gameplay mechanics. The world design was created with a mix of pixel art and detailed hand-drawn assets to bring the ruins of Elaria to life. For the narrative and decision-making system, we implemented dialogue trees that influence the outcome of the story. The game also integrates procedural puzzles, ensuring each player's experience is unique.
Challenges we ran into
Balancing gameplay and lore: Ensuring the story unfolds naturally without overwhelming the player with too much exposition. AI Behavior for Echo Hunters: Making them unpredictable yet fair was a significant challenge. Environmental Design: Creating an atmosphere that felt both mysterious and immersive required a lot of iteration.
