Inspiration

Hackathon weekends are always go-go-go and many participants tend to end up neglecting basic self care such as staying hydrated, taking breaks, and socializing—all in pursuit of a winning product.

What it does

PipStop redefines the hackathon experience by integrating wellness, social interaction, and fun into the intense coding environment. It's an innovative platform that randomly presents users with challenges in three key areas: Health, Social, and Fun. Hackers can earn points through completing these activities and the top participators are displayed on a podium leaderboard.

In the Health/Wellness category, participants receive prompts for physical exercises, mindfulness activities, or hydration and nutrition reminders. These challenges are designed to encourage physical movement, mental breaks, and overall health, crucial for maintaining peak performance during prolonged coding sessions.

The Social aspect focuses on fostering community and collaboration among participants. Challenges in this category might include quick team-building activities, engaging in a brief discussion on a fun topic, or sharing progress with peers. These activities aim to enhance the collaborative spirit of hackathons, often lost in the solitary focus of coding.

Lastly, the Fun/Games category adds a lighthearted touch to the serious environment of hackathons. Challenges here could range from quick online games to creative problem-solving puzzles, injecting a sense of play and relaxation into the event.

PipStop serves as an essential companion for hackathon participants, ensuring they stay energized, connected, and mentally refreshed. It's a platform that not only enhances the coding experience but also promotes a healthier, more socially engaged, and enjoyable hackathon environment.

How we built it

The front end of pipstop was built using React, HTML, and CSS. The backend

Challenges we ran into

We struggled with infobip pull requests as it was our first time working with this API. After consulting the event sponsor, we were redirected to an SDK that solved our issue of bad object error.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Prior to this project, all of us had very limited web-dev experience. Through this project, we were able to not only learn new libraries and frameworks, but also the valuable experience of collaborating on code in a team setting and the effective use of git/github.

What we learned

We also discovered that assistance is readily accessible, and it's important to proactively seek help whenever we encounter challenges in our project.

What's next for Pipstop

We hope to expand our product for large-scale events where similar problems are encountered and branch out from hackathons alone. As well, we hope to implement more features such as a unique QR code for each hacker to simplify and enhance the registration process.
