Inspiration
Regardless of geography, identity, or circumstance, we believe that everyone deserves the right to make informed decisions about their own bodies. Without this vital information, people might make ill-informed and possibly dangerous decisions. To protect the lives of those at risk, we strive to output reliable information, provide access to medical resources, and a maintain a supportive community. Reproductive rights are not just a privilege, but a universal reality.
What it does
Plan Your Care has three different tools you can use: a state map, a clinic finder, and a friend you can talk to! If you want to view the specific laws in your states, use our map, which is color coded in their access to abortion. Our clinic finder helps you find the nearest clinic to you. Don't know where to begin? Talk to Emmy in the corner, she will ask you a few questions about your situation, and help guide you on what to do!
How we built it
We built our database in MongoDB, and used React to create a responsive application. The map was created from an SVG file, and from there created a reactive map that can display data. We created Emmy in Blender, and importer her using three.js.
Challenges we ran into
While working in this project, we ran into a lot of issues with merging our branches. Because we were using different components, there was a lot of dependency issues that we had to sort through before we could continue working on our code.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our team came from a wide range of skill levels, with some of us still beginning our computer science journey and others veterans of the digits. We all learned something new, whether that was React, MongoDB, Blender, JavaScript, or how to not wreck the project in GitHub. We are very proud of our journey and growth that we achieved on this project.
Kalina: I'm proud of how nice the UX/UI came out, and the chat bot feature! Also, this was my first hackathon.
Jess: I'm proud of how I developed my skills in three.js and incorporating 3D components with React. I also learned a lot about GitHub.
Nora: This was my first time using React, and it was challenging but I really enjoyed the process of learning with my team! I'm also very proud of our ability to create under pressure.
Matty: I'm proud of how much we all learned!
What's next for Plan Your Care
To expand our database and the chatbot feature!
we are submitting our project for best UX/UI award, best WiNG award, best godaddydomain award, and best use of mongoDB
