Inspiration
Nowadays, plenty of games on the market find themselves utilizing the "free to play" model. However, most games aren't very wallet-friendly after all with the secretly embedded microtransactions and add-ons to purchase. We wanted to create a web app for gamers to budget their spending on such games, and become more mindful of their finances.
What it does
Pocketloot keeps track of the amount of money that is spent per game, and how much time is spent per game. It also allows users to view a summary chart of all their finances. Users are able to create a budget to help them stay within spending limits.
How we built it
We utilized Javascript along with Velo to create the framework of website, and Canva was used to create the graphics such as the logo. The domain name is from domain.com.
Challenges we ran into
Trying to figure out how to work on the project at the same time was a tough challenge as Velo did not allow us to simultaneously edit. We also had to learn how to use the Velo interface and read through tons of documentation as none of us had used Velo before. A particular issue we struggled with was implementing a chart -- we were unable to access the user-generated data from the site itself and utilize it towards the embedded HTML elements.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud of the design and overall look of the website that we created. We feel that the interface is intuitive and user-friendly.
What we learned
Trying to use new technology to finish a project in such a limited time is quite difficult. Also, there are many working parts of a website to consider when designing for usability but also aesthetics.
What's next for PocketLoot
We want to expand the game choices, as well as provide more customizable elements. One element we are looking to work on is the addition of charts for our summary page.
